Fighting to Become the World Standard
Makita Corporation's management in a time of crisis opted to become a sub-licensee of MDT, and from there became a company with a top share in the industry worldwide thanks to the opportunity to complete the world's first "Makita-Mitsui-B&W 6L35MC 4080 horsepower" engine. Through a series of six modifications to the engine model, there was an overwhelming positive response from the market, resulting in a leading share worldwide. The engines our company has worked on have become the world standard for marine engines in the 10,000 to 15,000 ton class.
However, those results are a part of the past. We do not want to let our past experience of success interfere with our success in the future. It is important not to hang onto previous results, but to always keep in mind the present time while moving forward. Those employees who were involved with management during the company’s crisis worked together, continuing to challenge themselves until they met with success; this attitude is what we think of as the "ism" of Makita Corporation. In 2014, Makita Corporation completed its second engine that was the first of its type in the world, the "S30ME-B9." The desire to take on challenges shared by Makita Corporation employees is a testament to the resilient heritage of the company.
Looking Forward to the Next 100 Years
In 2006, our crankshaft factory was expanded. In 2007, a third machine shop was established. A new office building was erected in 2009, and a new testing factory (for test driving the engines) was constructed and began operation in 2009. 2010 marked Makita Corporation's celebration of its 100th anniversary. At the same time as we passed the hundred year mark, Makita Corporation could certainly be said to have grown up into a quality manufacturer specializing in marine engines. In particular, with the long-desired new testing factory up and running, we are now able to conduct one continuous process from assembling the engine to testing it to shipping it, and along with establishing a system of producing 100 units annually, we have been able to further improve the precision of the manufacturing performed at Makita Corporation. Our sales have also become representative of a top class domestic marine engine manufacturer, seeing marked improvement in going from ¥10.2 billion in 2006 to ¥15.2 billion in 2010 as we celebrated our 100th year.
Our company has had interesting history over the past 100 years, which has been the result of constant support from our employees and their families. As a company, we are far from finished. In the future, Makita Corporation will continue to pursue and achieve new heights in working conditions and job satisfaction.
